Hello all. I am a long time lurker and an entrepreneur by blood. I have a professional job and hustle on eBay/Craiglist/Amazon on the side. I decided on the book writing path several months ago when I realized that A) I can write, B) I am creative, and C) I am good with Photoshop. The end result is a published, well polished, well edited book as a Kindle and print version.
The total cost of this endeavor was <$100 but enormous in time and research. I spent every single day for months researching and working, editing, deleting, finishing, deleting, editing, and finally getting to a point where no further work can be done. Advice to myself in the past would have been to make a better plan for the book but sometimes the creative process requires a somewhat loose approach.
I need direction with marketing. I have made this book from scratch, published through Createspace/Amazon, priced well for a children's book IMO, and generally speaking did a great job EXCEPT for building a marketing strategy. I am looking now at Fiver SEO offers and this seems like a reasonable place to begin to test the waters. This consists of spending $5 for someone to advertise your book on facebook/twitter, blog, mailing list, etc.
So here is my question for you all. I believe I have a quality book, it is refined, it is priced appropriately but I do not know how to advertise it to reach scale.
My strategy is this:
Fiver ad campaigns
Contact friends/family (word of mouth)
Contact local bookstores and teaching groups
Questions:
What has worked for people?
How does one approach a publisher or other major book firm to sell a book? (a bigger outfit than creatspace).
What hasn't worked?
