Hi everyone. I've been lurking on this site for a little while, and decided to sign up and start posting. First and foremost, I'd like to commend you all on building such a fantastic site. I haven't been on a forum with this many knowledgable and mature members. You've created a VERY welcoming atmosphere, despite the high level of wealth and success on this site. That alone is important for a beginner like myself... I find many successful people are rather vague about how they've gotten to where they are, and aren't exactly eager to help. For me, this website is a huge blessing and you've all helped me so much already.
A little about me: I graduated highschool and went straight to work at a large automotive factory. Being 19, living at home, and having a well paying factory job was great at first. I had a car that I had always wanted, and it was nice to have a little extra money lying around. After working in the factory for 4 years, I suffered a back injury and am currently on disability from work. Having back problems at 23 years old was a huge eye opener to me. I've been seeing an Osteopath and he told me that when someone suffers from backpain without a significant event to cause it, it may be from something that's been bothering them emotionally. Stress, depression, worry -anything like that. I thought he was crazy at first.
As I laid there on the floor, it hit me. For the past 4 years, I've been miserable and didn't even know it. My close friends and family members have noticed that I've changed, and not in a good way. Depression was taking its toll on me until finally, I broke. I've been working my tail off for a company that doesn't treat me the way I feel I should be and I can't live like this much longer. Time to make some major changes.
Since I've been away from my job, I've been so much more relaxed and easy going. I feel like I'm returning back to my true self and I feel a lot happier. That being said, I can't spend the rest of my life collecting disability cheques. I need to develop a plan. My back is gradually getting better and I'm looking forward to a full recovery. My goal is to leave my factory job and do something that I can be passionate about. I've read all the stickied success stories and they're awesome. It also got me thinking... some of these people started with no money, kids, debt, addictions etc. If they can succeed, I certainly can. I'm single, debt-free, have a little money saved up and have a family that supports whatever I choose to do.
I come from a family of employees so the world of business and investing is completely new to me. I was brought up thinking I was supposed to get a good job, save my money, buy a house and continue working until I retire. I didn't have any mentors or relatives to tell me otherwise. But that's ok because I'm eager to learn. During the time I've had off work, I've done more reading than I did in school. I read Cash Flow Quadrants by Robert Kiyoski, The Automatic Millionaire Homeowner by David Bach and plan on reading as many threads on this site as humanly possible. I'm doing my best to become a sponge and absorb as much information as I can.
So here I am. I'm going to keep digging around on this site, and hope to learn lots more from you guys and gals!
