Hey guys
Recently found this great forum while browsing over at Lambo power. I think its a pretty neat website and although I havent posted in a while, I have read most of the success stories here.
I am 23 and I run a Game Development Company in Mumbai, India. I graduated out of college from Orlando,FL and like most of you guys didnt believe in working for someone else and letting him make most out of you.
Like PhyxMJ - I am myself a great admirer of Lamborghinis and the urge to own them one day drove me towards running my own business.
While I was in USA, I started up a streaming service for Cricket sport targetted towards Indians and other Cricket followers. We offered web based service at prices almost 90% cheaper than what DirectTV or DISH were offering at that time. Like you know Indians love to save money and thats what kickstarted my business, within a first month I made over 70,000 USD and the revenues increased as months went by.
After being into business for almost a year, my parents requested my to return back to India as I needed to take care of them and so I did. I came back and was looking at other opportunities to make a profit out of, the Cricket business didnt last long as there were numerous lawsuits and foulcries from various broadcasting companies hence I sold it off ultimately to DISH for a decent price.
I returned back with approx. 1 million USD in pocket and was looking at various options to start in Mumbai - a night Club, a restaurant, someguy even suggested a private strip club for VIPs and whatnot. I knew that I can maybe turn the 1m into 2m in the next 3 years but that wouldnt get me the lamborghini I wanted as in India car imports duties are 140% so a LP640 costs approx. 750,000 USD here.
I was always interested in games and I saw the market here, India had great programming talent but nobody was utilizing it properly in gaming. Hence I decided to start my own gaming company! I called up few of my friends in Orlando who were then working for EA then told them about the idea, offered some nice stock options and within a month we had 5 guys moving to India.
It was enough and I started small with total 9 guys, we hired some great talent spent a lot of personal time in training. After a year the gig happened! we got offered a 3million USD contract from a European Publisher for a game. I scaled up the team to 30 to support the project. We offered prices 1/4 of the US market rates and the quality was on par with the western studios. Publishers realized this and work started pouring in and we never looked back.
Today I have 3 offices - 2 in India and 1 in China. I have total 253 employees on payroll and a US Publishered recently offered to acquire my company for $10m USD. Will I sell ? Nope Still havent bought my Lamborghini yet ( wish to get it by the end of the year ) but I have got a BMW 550i which I just paid 130k for and a car which turns equal heads as a lambo would in states :smxF:.
