I would like to see some feedback on my plan to succeed as an author of children's/young adult fiction. Am I on the fastlane, or on the wrong track?
Years ago, I saw an ad for a correspondence course on writing for children and teenagers. It was a very difficult time, financially, and I decided to use my writing talent to produce something that might increase my wealth. I enrolled in the course, and completed part of it, then took a hiatus for several years when my growing family placed great demands on my time. Later, I went back to the course and eventually completed it. I produced my first children's novel. The writing course provided a guide to publishers, but it wasn't designed to help authors get published. All it provided was a listing of publishers, most of whom reject about 98% of the work submitted to them. Since I didn't want to spend years trying to "get discovered," I decided to publish it myself. I found a print-on-demand (POD) service that would publish the novel and place it on Amazon, and then tried to start selling it. So far, my scale has been very small, and I'd like to expand it. I have also started writing a second novel.
I recently discovered The Millionaire Fastlane . I haven't finished reading it yet, but MJ convinced me that I could be doing a lot more. It was encouraging to read that content systems can lead to fastlane wealth. My goal is to own my own publishing company as an LLC, to produce children's and young adult fiction, to market and to sell it to millions of people, and to become very wealthy doing so. Of course, I would use the Internet, with a thorough website for the company and advertising on Facebook and other such services to reach millions of customers. The POD services could be used as my printing press. Do I have an intelligent, realistic path to success, or am I taking the wrong approach?
Your responses are welcome.
Thanks,
Nate
