My introductory post gives a glimpse of who I am. Here's what I do.
Since 1988 I've been a mechanical designer, primarily for the offshore oil industry. I started with AutoCad, and in the mid 2000's picked up SolidWorks. I've been project engineer, project manager, department manager, and lacky. In the beginning and for years afterwards I spent about 20% of my time in the field, either in shipyards here or abroad, or on oil rigs. At work I was the designer/draftsman, and in the field I was part of the team sent to install and commission our system.
In the past four years or so, my field time has tapered off in favor of sending younger, more junior (read: Cheaper) engineers. I have shifted focus to the sales side of the business. I'm coming to realize that we are leapfrogging our competition due to the quality of our proposals. Not only do we have solid technical content, but our graphics really sell the concept.
They say a picture's worth a thousand words. I make those pictures, and they convert.
What does this mean for you? I would be happy to assist anyone that needs graphics for their fastlane process. Mind you, I don't do PhotoShop or logo design. I do mechanical design. If you've got a widget you want to build, I will model it for you. Need a fabrication drawing for it? How about a rendering like the above? I'm here to help.
This is a FREE offer. I am still in the slow lane, so any work I do would be after hours and on my timeline. I can't predict the response to this, so it's possible I'll get snowed under at first. If so, please be patient.
Why am I doing this? I want to get into ecommerce, but as you can tell from the above, it's not my background. I'm starting from one (not zero, I've been tinkering). It's frustrating trying to get resources I need when I don't know exactly what I need. I figure some of you may be in the same boat when it comes to developing your widget. This is a way for me to give back to the community.
So, I'm gonna play the newb eccomerce guy asking the ridiculous questions. You play the guy with the sketch on a napkin trying to sell a concept. We're gonna get along famously.
