I have been through the book nearly 2 times now. I would like to share what I took from the need portion as I may be looking at it wrong and have questions regarding gauging need in the marketplace:
Need!
I do not take credit for these statements all credit goes to MJ DeMarco. This is my take from that portion of his book. This is the one of the most important aspects of his book or at least I believe it is.
YOUR road is your career. Most businesses are not a road/career you want to follow as they will turn into your typical JOB.
The road must go through affection to impact millions. If you are not able to impact millions the road will fail or turn into a job. To win you must solve a NEED or PROBLEM to win. My focus should not be on MONEY but how to solve a NEED or PROBLEM that benefits the people. #1 A business should not be started to solve your own need but to solve that of millions. GIVE 1st and TAKE 2nd.
To attract money I must stop chasing money and begin chasing NEEDS and PROBLEMS that need to be solved. Offer value through making people feel better, education, security (real estate), or to simply make a process for people easier. STOP trading 5 for 2!
For me personally my WHYS would be the following:
With that said my follow up to this would be to ask the following, they may seem silly or I may be looking in the wrong places. I have had ideas, I have done keyword research and SEO research. However before I dive in to process how would you answer the following:

- Nice home
- Freedom (no amount of money is worth selling my time 40 hours a week)
- Be able to be around for my family (watch my kid grow up)
- No alarm clock (wake up when my body decides to wake up)
With that said my follow up to this would be to ask the following, they may seem silly or I may be looking in the wrong places. I have had ideas, I have done keyword research and SEO research. However before I dive in to process how would you answer the following:
- How do I gauge a need in the marketplace (would I start the process, put the product out there and see what happens)?
- Without need I know the process will fail and I do expect failures before success but is there articles or books that would help you discover the possible need?
- I realize and have put it in my brain in to listen mode for things like "I hate" but when one says that how would I gauge if millions say that or want that same problem solved?
