Hello,
I want to start off by saying I’m very exited to be part of this group! I was a lurker for a few months last year and then got married and went off. I came back to see it became paid. I’m both sad about that but happy that the fakes will filter out and I can see a post history of multiple millionaires and seek advice.
Introduction:
I am Suhail (31) from England, Bradford. My father is a first generation immigrant and my mother a second. I currently work as a police officer and I am currently at the top of my pay scale. I work in the interview team and I am basically an unofficial detective until I decide to pass my exam. I also have a side role as the most senior officer on my team and I can allocate crimes out.
Location:
Bradford with a few basic Google searches would show you is consistently one of the cities with the highest crime rate in all of Europe. I am responsible on most days to review 60/70% of all crimes coming in and I decide what gets allocated out or what gets finalised.
Previous business attempts:
1. Start a generic blog making money of Google affiliates (£1/$1.3)- gave up after 3 months
2. Make an instagram account trying to talk about how to get rich (ironically with only 2 weeks of working full time and a few thousand in the bank). -$10 as I bought some template infographics and gave up after a few months.
3. Decided to make money anyway- used swagbucks and related sites. (£150/$194)- gave up after a few months as less than a dollar per DAY wasn’t going to cut it.
4. Decided to save hard and cut bills - saved thousands. This is a strength of mine and I always have savings. I currently bought a house (cash) after borrowing some money from family. So I owe (£35,000/$45.474) but interest free and I’ve been told to save and then give it in 3 lump sums rather than a monthly payment. I only have some painting, a bit of carpet and some sofas in one room remaining and I don’t have any major renovation work to do. Hence I should be saving about £2000/$2598 per month for the foreseeable.
5. Basic level of hustling- I started selling everything I have around the house that I don’t need- currently (£300/$389)
6. Rather than waiting for a spark, I do a lot of overtime and can average a few thousand extra a year which previously I would spend on holidays. I have £6000/$7795 earmarked for pilgrimage but don’t have any holidays planned and my wife isn’t a big fan of regular holidays anyway.
Basic pathway:
I went through school in a zombie like state. I was always above average but never elite and deep down I like it like that. Once I did my A levels my career pathway was in shambles. I followed my parents advice of science or bust but my talent was clear as day- computing. I was using command prompt when I was 11 (3 months after I got my first computer) and was making password recovery discs at 12 when my parents put passwords on my computer for playing too many games. At 14 I was making spoof Facebook pages and leaving a keylogger on my computer to see what everyone was researching. At 16 I got multiple distinctions during my GCSES. However my parents saw that we had a family friend who did computer science and then became a gas engineer instead as he could not get a job. His family are all either high level accountants £300,000/$389780 a year, an optometrist, a doctor, and several pharmacists. Their father was a high level builder and their property is worth around a million. My parents looked at their overall family and thought if he can’t Suhail can’t. I have very few regrets in life but this is my major one. I had talent, work ethic and interest. Eventually I finished my degree (combined science with a year of computer science added too). I did a placement and other ambassador jobs and was part of a tiny minority in the entire UK that left my degree with no debt. I was given a job offer but rejected it as there was no progression. I then became a teacher but left after a year as I knew I wouldn’t want to for a year. I then aligned some of my strengths (fighting and being nosy lol) and became a police officer. I struggled initially as I’m introverted and my team were a bit strange. But as I joined another team and started interviewing more I started to love it and got good at seeing through BS, digging in deep and asking good questions and becoming respected in my field. I’m now on of the top interviews in my city and many people come to me for advice. I would say about half the student officers have been trained by me at some point and they always come to me as soon as they’re stuck.
Current business:
1. I am following on from 5 above and still selling things.
2. I want to start a small app business. The app is for local mosques which require an app so they can display prayer times. For those that are not Muslims, they pray 5 times a day and have a range of times for each prayer. Mosques set their own times depending on school, workplace timing and other factors to help facilitate the best time for their locality. local mosques have their own time which means a generic cookie cutter timestable won’t cut it. My current mosque posts their timetable on a website or on telegram where it is pinned. Regardless every worshipper either has a paper copy at home or has to go online, zoom in and then read across to see what time the prayer is- inefficient to say the least.
What am I doing now?
I’ve done some research and realised that I don’t require a native app for both IOS and Android at this stage as the solution is simple once the app is created and only minimum features are required.
I am currently learning HTML5 and CSS3 and then will move onto Javascriot. Once I get close to intermediate level I will progress onto React and then react native for app building as it is cross platform.
Competition:
A local mosque in the area has asked for a similar app solution (masjidbox.com) and I know there is a market for it as several mosques in the UK have this solution albeit not all within the locality.
Soft proof:
I want this and several people I have spoken to want this. Unfortunately nobody in the mosque is both experienced or motivated enough to build an app and they don’t want to fork out hundreds for one.
I have spoken to the mosque members and they have agreed a £10/month ($12.99/month) subscription if I create it and maintain it for them. Really this one is not about the money as it is solving a problem. The majority worshippers are full time employees who are educated (doctors, dentists, teachers, pharmacists etc.) and so it’s a no brainer solution for them that only the mosque will pay for at a minimum cost.
Random religious observation:
Not commonly known, but prophet Muhammad had the following qualities:
1. He was a Shepard but also had a short career as a merchant where he was extremely successful enabling a wealthy multimillionaire businesswoman to notice him and marry him.
2. The Quran is revealed over several decades and the last few verses talk about interest being haram (forbidden) but business halal (completely accepted). Interest discussion aside I knew from that alone that saving and earning a minute amount of interest can never be the same as a successful business.
3. The prophet’s companions were a mixture of wealth and power and one of his top companions was a multi BILLIONAIRE.
4. The prophet has many quotes where he says that a pious person with great wealth who does charity will be one who will be in Jannah (heaven).
I have left the above not for religious talks but because if there are any Muslims reading this posts- wealth isn’t a bad thing and in fact highly encouraged so long as you are moral (I’m assuming the prophet was talking about a productocracy vs a MLM).
Finally, I apologise if this post is massive but I wanted to show my history, previous attempts and current journey to show I’m trying to “be in motion” rather than sitting idle even if I’m not quite on the right path yet.
Thank you MJ for showing me the light and preventing another silly blog about making money (past me haha). As soon as I read the millionaire fastlane I knew that all the other BS that I had read was stupid and it cut through the crap immediately. I was aware of some of the CENTS but E and N were the life changers for me. I knew E from my past as I did some local mma and Muay Thai tournaments and knew you cannot just walk into the big leagues without talent and training.
