Hi!
New guy here. Well, what about me?
I'll start saying I wish I had read TMF way back I started all of this. Thank you @MJ DeMarco.
I made many mistakes. I wasted a lot of time.
But let's get back to where it started.
I dropped out of college on my second year. Of course, I did. After that, I got a job as tech guy at a local recording studio. The money was terrible. I was living with my mother because I couldn't afford anything better.
I thought "just work hard, they'll notice."
They didn't.
Five years of my life wasted, hoping for a better future, hoping for a reward for my hard work. What a fool. Wake up call.
I left, learned some code and started my business as a freelance web developer.
I got a couple of clients. I wanted to bring real results to people, real solutions. I was obsessed with that. That's why I started studying digital marketing.
After some study on my own, I felt I needed some more credibility. I went back to school and got a fancy professional certification from a fancy Institute.
I had a nice looking piece of paper I could slap onto my client's faces. "Look, I'm certified, I know better!".
Do you think that helped with credibility?
It didn't.
I started my own digital agency in my city. My girlfriend who is a social psychologist decided to jump in business with me.
I wasn't sure about what she could do with that background. I learned that it was the best thing that could have happened to me.
After a couple of months with just one client, here we are. Broke.
I read TMF .
After reading TMF, I'm not seeing a bright future for this business, not the way it is right now, at least. It fails miserably with Scale and Time.
I thought, maybe there's something we can do with info products.
We know (real) marketing, we know things that can be useful to others. But we can't prove it, because we don't have years of experience. We're like fresh graduates trying to convince people they're good.
People's BS radar is finer than ever and we don't want to do bro-marketing crap, just provide good value.
We're scared because cash is running low, and we're turning into money chasers.
Sorry for the rant (and my English) but..well... that's me, at least LOL. 😀
