Hey guys,
My name is John, 22 and I'm from the UK, Berkshire area currently working in a minimum wage job that i'm not enjoying to say the least! For the past couple of years I've wanted to start my own business and always hoped that I would end up in that position later down the line. I was considering going to uni to study a degree and then potentially do a masters afterwards, I thought about the amount of debt it would put me into and if my goal was to start my own business then I can teach myself what I would learn through a uni and more just from experience and educating myself without spending the 30k+ on getting the degree.
I subscribed to the forum a couple of days ago and since then have been wandering around reading a few posts and just generally exploring/lurking whenever I've been at the computer, unfortunately my motherboard went on my laptop so having to use someone else's for the time being.
At the moment I'm in the process of trying to find a decent product to import in, to try to get a decent line going through E bay as a start, I seem to be finding the whole "Finding a product" more difficult than I originally thought it would be, I guess it doesn't help the fact I've got a starting capital of around £200-300($300-450). Last year around the June/July period I decided to have a go at selling towels due to the fact my granddad was a Market Trader and Shop owner, he specialised in Bath room and Bedroom so I sold some of his stock and surprisingly even with the vast competition I still managed to sell a fair few.
Problem 1 arose at this point which was due to it not being my own stock I couldn't keep constant tabs on the stock we had in so I missed a sale, that was the first indication that to do it with full effect I would need to invest in my own stock, I had one person return one pair due to them being the wrong colour even though a picture clearly showed the colour but I accepted it apologised to the customer and offered a refund.
Then problem 2 hit which was idiotic on my part I was spending the money I had been making but not only the profit also the stock on random bits and bob I guess now I consider that my Main Lesson taken away from that failure and I left it for a couple of months and came back to make money another way later on in time.
After that a friend of mine suggested that I sold some other bits which I decided to do only for around a month, I managed to keep hold of the stock money this time and saw the money growing I was able to buy more. I decided to step out at around £400 from starting at £60 due to it being unlawful and nothing I wanted to delve into, it wasn't for me in I decided if I was to do it I would do it legit, At least this time I managed to keep a hold on the money and track what was needed. It wasn't drugs just more on the copyright side of things.
Hopefully as my own knowledge and experience broadens I can offer more of a contribution to the people that are just starting out in the same situation I am in.
Nice to meet you all!
