I am an inventor, new to the business and new to owning a business based on an invention. I finally found this as a forum for me to get solid help and direction from experienced folks like yourself.
I have a great product, and sales were good out of the gate. Sales started to plateau, and so I began looking for a sporting goods distributor to take my product into wide distribution, or look at licensing it. I have no sales force to speak of, I am pretty much solo. What does a person do like myself, when he has a great product and has invested so much into it only to hit a plateau because he doesn’t have a sales force?
I am a Midwest hockey coach, and father of one. The product, the Original Skate Squeegee, is a great little "one of a kind" product for youth hockey players. I invented it because it has a logical purpose, and can save parents alot of headaches. However, I have no way to take it to the next level on my own. I need to link this with a distributor, or license it. I have covered the web, searching for sites where I can find people that would be interested in taking on my product, but I can’t find one for the life of me. There has to be a way to find real, and good firms to link up with that don’t hit you up for silly fees to evaluate your product. I have done all of that. I have the solid product and manufacturer, it’s all covered. I already have some retail customers, and the patent is very close to being approved. I just need a solid firm to take this, and go big with this thing. Does anyone know where I could go to get this process going? I would be very grateful for your insight. I have spent countless hours trying to find distributors and businesses that will license my product but it seems that I am further along than what their services will provide. Thus not benefitting me in the least. Not to mention the fact that they all charge “fees” to have them “look at your product”. What a scam! Again, I have done all of that, and I know that my product has a place in the market. I just don’t know how to find and pick a solid company to take it to the next level.
