Hey everyone another new member over here! I haven’t read TMF yet but I plan to here in the near future. I stumbled across the forum when I simply searched “How I bought a supercar” on Google. As you can imagine I’m a bit of a gear head (which is one of the primary motivations behind my plans to change my life as many of you have).
A little about me. Right now I’m 20 and in college pursuing a mechanical engineering degree which I’m hoping will help me down the road to increase my problem solving abilities and come up with solutions to problems that others may have. I now have plans to pursue a minor in entrepreneurship which will in theory also help me down the road. A great deal about how to manage money has come from my father. He was always good with money but never really made the right career choice to become extremely successful in life. I was always taught under the mindset of “get a good job right out of college and you’ll be fine for the rest of your life”. This is one of the reasons I was kind of pushed into MEing but also for the challenge of it and the possibility of working in the auto industry. At this point I am most likely to graduate college without any debt and entry level for an engineer is around 60k so I should have some startup money if that be the case someday. One of my fears is that once I graduate and am offered a job I will become too comfortable and not take any risks. But I’ll have to cross that bridge when it comes up haha. I took a personal finance class in high school that was essentially watching Dave Ramsey DVD’s and following along in the book. The class may have been a blow-off for some but I think I managed to get a lot of good information out of it.
My goal is to someday be working as an engineer by day (to keep my sanity) and possibly run a side business or many if that’s the case to create the income I desire to fulfill my dreams. I’m a bit of an information sponge in that I will most likely read a hundred threads and post very little unless it’s small amounts of feedback or thanks.
I would love to meet some of you and hear your success stories. I know that to be successful you have to surround yourself with successful people or people with successful mind-sets. I look forward to all of the reading I have to do here and can’t wait to get my life in the fastlane!
