Hi all,
I read the book about 6 months ago and it stuck in my head ever since. It's made me wonder about my career and what path to take down the road.
I'm in my late twenties, and I work in Hong Kong as an analyst in a mutual fund. The pay is ok, low 6 figures and 15% income tax. It does have the potential to become something very well paid - my boss easily makes over a million per year. The bonuses themselves get to 6 figures pretty quickly. The hours are good too, about 10 hours a day in a very flexible, thought provoking environment.
Nevertheless it's a job. A job in which you can de-link earnings from time to an extent (if you invest right you get the bonus, they don't care how long you spent at the office). Which is great. But it's not truly fastlane, and I wonder what else I could turn this into - that said I do enjoy the job, and the payout in 10 years could be massive - there's no reason I can't build up capital then go "true fastlane" at 40.
In any case that's where I'm coming from. I'm not sure what would take me into the fastlane - possibly going independent as an ultra high net worth financial advisor.
Anyone else here in finance, buy side or sell side?
