Happy mlk day!!!
I've finally decided to join this site, mostly because of a new website I've started (actually about a month ago). I already bought a domain name so I'm pretty sure I'm going to see this thing through.
money
Paid 15$ for a domain name
Got Free hosting for a month from hostgator (about to expire). Probably won't renew until I've got all the site pages done
~15$ more in paypal account
~10-15 more if I asked my parents
Plan
I'm going to build the website myself. Actually ive spent almost a month using asp.net. This is the first time I've built a website but I do have some applicable skills.
What I've already done:
Im an artist by nature and broke so I decided to design the site myself instead of using a template. I got alot of inspiration from looking at site designs simular to my goal. Inspecting pages in google chrome showed me the html which helped me emulate how the site works. Html /Css isnt really that complicated. After watching 4 hours worth of YouTube tutorial series I was able to make the layout. I was already very familiar with both the visual studio enviornment and c# (c# is my favorite programming language and I could never recommend visual studio enough) so I was pretty proficient at using asp.net. I made a map (sitemap?) of the basic flow of the site to help me know what pages are left. I've got about half of the pages designed but not functioning.
Recently:
I started learning about SQL and how to work with my database. I'm gradually adding the functionality. I've had to reorganizing some of the code to make member pages and stuff (anonymous/logged in view) but that doesnt take that long. I can get about 2 pages done per day on weekends. My parents don't let me use the computer for anything but homework during the week (I do it anyway) so my goal is 1 easy page per day during the week. At the earliest I can probably finish the site by the end of February.
Things I need help on:
My site's gonna be have a revenue share model (think squidoo) but I can't find very much info on building one online. I heard of adsense's revenue share API but it doesn't sound like a good fit. Besides me not wanting to rely too much on adsense, (as i understand it) the program isnt for new websites. I wanted to maybe have 3 ads on each users content and pay them a percentage of the revenue. Any ideas on how to implement thus?
Sorry if this is a long first post or something, but I'd appreciate any comments/critiques.
