Hello everyone
I wanted to write up a quick introductory post as well as a big "thank you" for everyone's contribution to the forums.
My name is Taylor and I've dabbled in business for most of my life.
I graduated college in '08, moved down to GA for 2 yrs and opened up a strength and conditioning bootcamp. Prior to starting that business I was training clients 1-on-1 for a solid 5+ years. If anyone has any questions on nutrition, conditioning, strength, hypertrophy training, joint motion, movement planes/patters, diet, ask away! I'd be happy to help
It didn't take long for me to realize that I didn't see myself as a 45+ y/o coach, screaming at clients to "give me one more push up! COME ON! JUST ONE MORE!!" haha! (no offense to any of the men and women out there)
I began looking into REI and befriended a man who had owned his own brokerage for years. He opened my eyes to what was possible in RE. We hit it off and spent some time talking about each other, our goals, and the deals he's been involved in.
I ended up closing the doors to my training business and moved back up North. At 24 I moved back in with my folks, my tailed tucked between my legs. I worked for a landscaping company for a year and began saving money. I knew where I wanted to be and began networking with any RE professional I could. A year later, I responded to a CL post written by an active RE investor. I sent several emails and finally heard back from him. He told me that out of 70+ reponses to his email, he chose me because I told him I would work for free, just to be able to learn the necessary skills. Thankfully I was paid
We worked together for a year. I rehabbed 3 houses with him from start to finish. It was an incredible learning experience. He had extensive knowledge in REI, finance, business... it was a dream come true. I learned what true "hustle" was that year.
Unfortunately, his wife was diagnosed with cancer which slowed tings down. We spoke about future plans together, me taking over and he spending more time doing the things he wanted to do. It all seemed perfect! Such is life, i guess.
This was 3 months ago.
Seeing the writing on the wall, we parted ways for the time being. I decided to sign up for RE classes to gain access to the MLS. I've spoken with private lenders and have lined up funds for my first flip. Contractors are lined up as well.
Remember that landscaping company I worked for? The owner heard me speaking about my plans to get into REI. He took me aside one day and told me about a business idea. A home maintenance business. We'd be a one-stop shop to any and all home repairs.
We've heard it all before, "jack of all trades, master of none", well, when he showed me how his little handy man business was pulling $75 an hour with ease and frequently, I decided to partner with him.
We're in the process now of writing up marketing material. The plan is to network with realtors. We'll show them the value of our company and have them promote us to their clients selling their home.
I'll have more details soon.
So there you have it. I'm here to prove that just because you've spent nearly a decade in one industry, it's possible to change direction and learn something entirely new.
I'm looking forward to sharing experiences with everyone here.
