Hello Fastlaners
I have been following this forum for over a year, however, I have not been that active in posting so far. I would like to change that, and therefore, I am creating this progress thread. This is mainly for keeping myself motivated and engaged, and hopefully, someone can learn from my failures and potential successes.
Who am I?
I am a 25 year-old Russian born guy, who has been living in Denmark for the most of my life. I have always been fond of travelling and living in other countries. As 15-year i studied a year at a High School in Michigan, and it was after this point I realized that I would not be able to spend the rest of my days in Denmark. Coming back from the US, i decided to enroll into business college in Denmark. It took me 4 years to complete (instead of the normal 3 years, because the young me was a complete idiot and decided that partying and having fun was more important than school at that point).
After finishing business college, I decided to take a leap-year so I could work and save some money up to do some travelling. I worked various jobs, whilst I on the side were doing a lot of Sportsbetting. Sportsbetting was going really well, so I decided to quit my jobs and moved to Barcelona with 3 friends to live full-time of Sportsbetting and Poker. In Barcelona I stayed for 3 months only.
Making money of Sportsbetting seems like a dream job for most young guys, nevertheless, it was probably the most stressful period of my life. We were never of duty, as picks from various experts were ticking in all day. From the early horse-racing bets at 10 in the morning, till the late NBA bets 3 in the night. Hell, I even remember us being drunk in a nightclub looking for WIFI at 2 in the night, just so we could place our bets. Then getting home at 6 in the morning, just to get 3 hours of sleep and then getting up to place the early horse-racing bets. This was not Fastlane - this was more like being a slave to a computer or smartphone.
When I realized that this was not what I wanted with my life, I decided to move back to Denmark to study an AP-degree in Marketing Management. After a year I was already tired of Denmark again, and fortunately, I got the option to study my 3rd semester abroad. The choice was relatively easy, and I went to Barcelona again. It amazed me how much more complex, difficult and interesting the learning was abroad than in Denmark. I might have learned more in those 6 months in Barcelona, than in all my years in Denmark. On the 4th and last semester, I had to do an internship. I was that fortunate that a mate of mine, actually a pretty young succesful entrepreneur, had hooked me up with an internship in Marbella, in the south of Spain.
The internship was great, and after I went home and passed my final exams, they decided to offer me a permanent job. I decided to accept the offer, and once again change Denmark for Spain. The job was quite well-paid compared to Spanish standards, so the lifestyle was pretty good. The environment was interesting, as a lot of entrepreneurs have made their way down to Marbella. You have to take in mind though, that more than 50 percent of the rich people you meet down there have made their money some dirty way, so you always had to be cautious of who you could trust, and who you wanted to create business ventures with. As mentioned earlier, the money were good, however, the job became way to monotonous, and I really needed some new challenges. Therefore, I quit after a year, and decided to enroll into University again. This time to study a Bachelor in Entrepreneurship & Innovation. I simply could not pass the opportunity to study something like this!
What are my previous experience as an Entrepreneur?
I am very green in this field still. My issue has been that I have often started something, without following through. I have had several betting websites, a "webdesign agency" and also been a part of a start-up that was supposed to revolutionize the Danish football-world. However, as you guys probably already know by reading this post, none of those things worked out.
After enrolling to study Entrepreneurship & Innovation, my motivation for starting a business re-appeared. In the last 6 months I have been working on 2 different projects, however, they are now on hold due to various reasons. Mainly due to the reason that I came up with a great idea(or at least I think it is awesome), that I would put all my time in now. This is the one! Or obviously Emma Watson is the one, however, she will have to wait at least a couple of years, while I am busy with this project.
Why 2015 is my time?
Basically, all circumstances for this year to be a succesful one are there. Now it is only up to myself to make it happen.
As many of you might not know, we get paid money by the government to study in Denmark. Yes, we are that fortunate to get paid around 700 euros each money just to study (and some people complain and even want more money paid). This means I do not necessarily need a side-job, and therefore, I can focus 100 % on my education and my project/business.
Now it gets even better. Since I am studying Entrepreneurship & Innovation, the goal of this study is to prepare us for a future as Entrepreneurs within our own businesses, or Intrapreneurs within big corporations. I am of course targetting the first option. On our third and last semester, which begins in August/September, we have to do an internship aswell. Unlike, all other educations in Denmark, we have the choice to do an internship in our own company.
What does this mean? This means that I from July until January next year can work FULLTIME on my own business, while getting paid money from the government. This would mean that I can put 100 % focus on growth, without having to work extra-jobs or having to cash-out from my own business. I can re-invest all the money in the business, and work 16 hours a day on it if I want to. This is an opportunity not many have, and I feel very fortunate to have it.
There are no excuses!
I have realized that there are simply no excuses to not make this year the most productive and succesful I have had so far in my life. After reading MJ's book last year, I realized that I have actually never been a SLOWLANER. I have been a SIDEWALKER - which in my opinion is even more dangerous.
3 weeks ago I came to a turning point and have changed my lifestyle radically. I started working out again, and I am taking a long break from alcohol. I have the last years had a really soft spot for especially good food and redwine - which in the long term not only affects you physically, but also mentally. I can feel that I have so much more focus, energy and determination just after these 3 weeks of a healthy lifestyle. And hey, I am also 4 kilos lighter. Still 10 kilos to go though!
Many people say that a healthy lifestyle and a healthy business go hand-in-hand, and first now I actually start to believe them.
This post became really long, however, it is great to actually get everything from your mind down on "paper".
In the next post I will update and tell a little more about the project I am working on, and also set up goals and milestones to motivate myself.
If you have made it this far, then thank you so much for reading. I hope that at least somebody will find my progress a little bit interesting, and I really hope that someone also can be able to learn from it.
Cheers
