Hello All,
My name is Brian (obviously). I'm a very young 50 <cringe, I never get used to saying that>, I live in Tempe AZ. I am originally from the DC area. I moved to the Phoenix metro for the sunshine and blue skies (sound familiar?). I am an avid learner and problem solver. I have 20 years as a wage slave managing technical projects, mostly IT, and five amazing years running a semi-autonomous hardware design lab building specialized computer communications products for SOCOM. I’m prior military, US Air Force, all non-combat service.
I am skilled at identifying problems, building prototypes, listening to customer feedback, and refining designs to lower production cost. I am recognized as a ‘master maker/fabricator’, but I prefer to say I collect skills the way other people collect baseball cards. I am well versed in the digital design world. I do my own drafting and am skilled with everything from 3D printers to abrasive water jet cutters. I systematize and automate reflexively, because frankly doing product production of more than a few hundred units is a boring slog.
What I really suck at, is marketing and sales. I recognized this a year ago, and have been working on my skills and changing my mindset to be ‘okay’ with doing sales and marketing. Selling things just wasn't part of my DNA, and something I have chronically avoided. If you don't sell something, you don't have a business. It took some time to internalize but I’m finally comfortable with selling now. I’m still very much a novice, which is why I am here. I have read all the popular entrepreneurial books, but 'Unscripted ' pulled it all together for me, and I just bought the audio version of the MFL. Sadly, I have been passing it up for years because of the title! I’m beating my head against the desk right now for not getting it sooner. <thud, thud, thud>.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer questions, I won’t abuse the privilege. I am here to contribute as well as benefit. Feel free to post and message me the link if you want my 2 cents on your prototype or MVP. Thanks again all!
