Yes, I bought into the SCRIPT.
That expensive college education (all paid for at the expense of no vacations and frugal living for years)... That "nice" job, slaving away at a global IT consulting firm, spending my late 20's as an IT hermit working stupid hours - doing constant night calls with developers in India, but always billing 8's (8 hours per day so as not to impact project financials - I drank the company koolaid)... That silly expensive BMW coupe to "treat" myself after all that hard work and the promotions (.9 % sounded so nice - what a jackass I was)... all the certifications to increase my intrinsic value to my employer - Scrum Master, Scrum Developer, Scrum Product Owner, CAPM, PMP, you name it - I'm even still currently finishing the Microsoft Certified Professional - Power BI Cert exam and have signed up for the Azure Architecture cert exam.
Then, after my last project ended, the company I was so loyal to for almost 5 years decided that I was dead weight while in-between projects and recently let me go. Thanks guys, after all those years billing 8s, helping develop your analysts and new hires.
Broken, I did was I always do in times of distress and look for books. That's when I found TMF (forever grateful for MJ and his work).
Read it in about one day and had Unscripted in my hands and read that too as soon as I could finish it. Couldn't put either of the books down! How eye-opening! It was an incredible feeling, I almost wish I could go back in time to re-live the experience of reading these books for the first time.
Anyways, I'm aware of how scripted I WAS (and how my scripted my brothers and friends are).
I've not had my FTE. I'm still job searching due to my indentured time from the debts I have.
By MJ's definition, had I had the FTE, I'd be fully committed to entrepreneurship regardless of these factors.
But... I want to pay off my debts and at least have my health insurance figured out before venturing full time.
So maybe that FTE is still looming around the corner.
I've since enjoyed reading the posts here. I've bought and read several books recommended by MJ and other members here. It's been a nice experience and I know in the end I'll grow from this rough time. After all, it's what led to me opening my eyes to the script, caused me to reach out for all this knowledge I've gained recently and still thirst for, and brought me here.
Mark my f-ing words. I WILL BE an entrepreneur one day, but that day cannot be now or in the near-term. It is probably 6-12 months away.
I need to do the 9-5 thing for a while and take care of finances and during that time I'll be working to identify a value prop that meets CENTS and living frugally to save for my business.
Nice to meet you all and glad to be here. I hope to one day contribute to this forum and inspire others like you have inspired me.
