Hello,
Intro
I am 19 years old living in the UK, and in my last year of college. In the UK this is the time in your life where you decide whether you would like to go to university. Despite having the appropriate grades university definitely does not appeal to me in the slightest.
As I am sure most of you can empathize TMF connected to me in ways that nothing has before. Values, views and opinions that I had were reinforced by the book and for the first time I felt as if what I wanted from life wasn't unrealistic.
I find it ludicrous how millions of people settle for mediocrity and have no ambition whatsoever. In my mind working a 9-5 everyday just to live and making someone else rich just isn't an option. However working 20 hour days for myself, that is definitely an option. I am prepared to do anything to bring success and if after 50 years of graft it still doesn't come my way, then at least i gave it a dam good go.
There is so much more I would like to say but I don't intend on stealing too much of your time, I look forward to the future and the relationship I will have with this forum.
Real Question:
The reason in which i created this thread was to ask whether you would approve of my plan after college. As I mentioned before and as we all know university is the path of normality, failing that you would get an apprenticeship or full time job.
I currently earn £300 per month and my outgoings are around £100. After college I will be selling my car to limit my outgoings further thus making it very possible to live on such a small income. I have been saving money all my life and have a healthy sum to invest in myself when the time is right.
To receive my monthly income I only work 8 hours a week which leaves me a great amount of time to develop my ideas and further my education through books etc.
Is only working 8 hours per week and spending the rest of the time developing myself and my ideas a good idea or should I be looking for full time job?
In my eyes it seems like the correct thing to do but with parents that don't understand why I want to do this (although i have explained, many many times) it does become difficult. However they will support me whichever I choose supposedly.
I look forward to your responses.
