I have come up with an idea and have filled a niche that I think has some good potential. I have filed my LLC and created my business account as well as secured my domain name and started building out my site and payment type for the website.
I have run into one problem now in that in my niche the wholesalers require you to be an authorized dealer of the manufacturer or have an actual brick and mortar retail store.
Starting out I do not want to take the risk or the time commitment to start up an actual brick and mortar store or become an authorized dealer. This would entail multiple weeks of training at their manufacturing plants.
I have found a person who has a brick and mortar store with no online presence in the same field as me. We would not be direct competitors as I would sell different products in my niche than this other person currently does and I would help him build an online business that he currently does not have. I could use his store front as my actual store front for shipping from the wholesalers so this would fix a problem that I currently have. I would then offer to build him a website to sell online for free for a percentage of his sales.
How should I go about approaching him to create this partnership? I do not know the person, but it would be fairly easy to approach him as being in the niche there is a sense of community in it as well.
I was thinking of offering him a free website if I can use his location for shipping from the wholesaler and using this as the store front. I would then create the website and do all the online maintenance of his and my sites for free and I would get a cut of all online sales. I was thinking like 30% from his site and then I would make 100% of any sales from my site and I would not have him make a cut from mine.
Would this be a fair trade? Should I offer him any percentage of my online sales?
