At B&P, I revealed to the attendees that I have a wild dream about being a comedian. Yes I know, shocking ...
After my presentation and videos, I was asked a question by IOWNIE who asked "If I was broke, would I pursue the comedian dream" and I responded with NO. I wasn't really able to elaborate on the "why" and the "reasoning" so I wanted to do it here -- this is something I don't want misinterpreted, especially with such a blaise answer.
The reason I answered no is because I view this pursuit as a wild dream, but not a passion. I am at the point of my life where I can pursue, what I call, "implausible" dreams -- Russ H described this in his presentation and it sat high atop of his pyramid -- as described as "peak experiences" -- these are "self-actualizing" activities that seem so outlandish (to me) that I'd want total freedom to pursue them WITHOUT the authentication of money.
So this dream is something I consider a "peak experience" -- but not necessarily a "passion".
If I was broke, I'd be focusing on my passion and my motives wouldn't be about "peak experiences" but more about safety and psychological needs....
My passion has always been about ...
1) Free time
2) Not having a boss
3) Not getting up in the morning by an alarm clock
4) Having the free time to pursue "peak experiences"
The comedian thing lies ATOP of the pyramid. My passions lie toward the bottom.
This was the answer that should have followed my "NO" -- I hope it all makes sense and after Russ H's Maslow examination, it all became easier to explain!!
Make sense!?
