Hi there,
I'm planing to create a website which is similar to Groupon. For those of you who don't know Groupon (Groupon.com), it's a website which lists special offers in your town/Country (e.g. 50% off at your favourite italian restaurant).
I'm hoping to revolutionize that, but the main problem is:
Which country should I use to start?
Switzerland has only a population of 7.6M people. This is where I live, where I work and where I feel comfortable running a business.
If I start here (I'd be limited to business and users from here), others would have time to copy my idea.
If I start somewhere else (e.g. Germany with 82M population), the business could grow much faster and leave me more time to expand to other countries. But, I'd need more time and money to move there, acquire customers (which offer the deals on my website) etc..
So it's basically the question, do it now with a limited potential or wait about 12 months and have a better chance of growing, even if it's probably too late until then? Also I'd have to quit university (I'm still a student), my job (software consultant), save more money, learn how business run in Germany.
Does anyone have experience with a similar problem? How did you solve or fail at it?
