Don't forget that there are unique ways to market your product and business, other than social media, ppc, etc... It's easy to forget this, especially for those of us who have online businesses. I have had great success by actually going to my target audience.
Take post-card marketing as an example: The benefits:
-cheap- you can get post cards for as low as 50 cents per card. You only need stamps. No need to spend money on an envelope.
-creative - you can make your cards creative to grab attention
-No need for stamps - If you plan to go out in public and pass them to people then you don't even need stamps!
-High Sticky Factor - All mail looks the same. Post cards stand out.
-Less Work For the Receiver - You have to count on the receiver to open mail up and unfold the papers. No need to do that with a postcard.
- More Eyes - A post card might end up on a refrigerator. It's almost like putting a small billboard in someone's kitchen.
- Personal - Today it seems like people like genuine/personal actions. I would say that a post-card is a little more genuine/personal than a business sales letter. Although, I guess that could be argued.
I have also been told by a college administrator that college execs and their assistances tend to notice postcards first and they are likely to throw out mail that looks like junk or sales letters. Keep this in mind for those of you who deal with B2B marketing.
___________
Here is one way that I will be using postcards:
Within the next few months I plan to engage in a marketing campaign at Princeton University. I have deemed Princeton to be one of the potential tipping point schools for my product. It is therefore extremely important to get the attention of their students.
How will I do this? Well obviously social media, getting in-contact with school administrators, etc.. but one of my post powerful tools is going to be postcards. I will be delivering postcards to the dorm room of every on-campus student. The card will simply be placed under their door {This is 100% legal and I have a service set-up to help with the distribution}. I expect that my postcards will stand out more than the normal piece of mail or a flyer.
AFter that, I'll begin phase 2 of the blitz. Instead of postcards, I'll be distributing pens to students with my domain name. I have used pens before with great success. The great thing about pens is that a pen can reach many hands. It has more viral potential than an email or postcard. For example, at work I slipped one of my custom pens onto my boss' desk. I noticed that he used it for a few months, and the pen has transitioned to about 3-4 different people. They have no clue that it's for my site haha.
I may share my post-card to give an example of how mine is designed. But that won't be for awhile. Just thought that I would share now.
