Hey guys,
I'm super happy to have stumbled upon this forum. Well... upon the book.
Who am I? Well that's not really the right question... the better question is: who was I two years ago?
Two years ago I had just graduated from law school in germany, one of the best of my year, and started working for uni and working on my PhD. Why ? Not because I love the science of law. Or university.... to be honest I hated university. I hated working there. I was just really good at learning and passing exams.
So why did I start working there and doing a PhD in a very specific part of law (that not even my professor understood properly) ? Because I knew I'd start with about 10-20% higher income.
But the story doesn't end here. I got lucky. In the summer of 2013 I decided to go on a trip where I met a few people who were all making money in online marketing. Some of them were just employees, others had their own business and one was an affiliate marketer. The fascinating thing was.... they were all working from their computers. And they were travelling all year.
Up to that point I was always thinking "I want to make a ton of money but that means I will never be able to have children and be a good father, or travel the world with my friends, or move to a beach with my girl and our kids while the children are still young..."
But seeing these people made me realise that just going for a high paid job wasn't it. Since then I've been trying to figure out another way.
I started travelling and managed to work my universtiy job from my computer most of the time, but also stopped working on my PhD. I joined an online "entrepreneurship program" and launched an online marketing agency. Waiting for the promised freedom to fall into my lap I quickly understood (of course) that this wouldn't happen. I went back to germany and started working hard to get my first clients on board, which I did in the last two months. But I also realised that I am offering a commodity service, I don't really find anything to put me apart and I feel like I'm just hustling super hard to get those few little sales in. I make less money than I did when I was still employed and right now I work almost ten times as much as I did back then. Even though I'm my own boss I don't feel like I have any control over where this is going and I want to find a better way to do this. I don't know how yet but I will figure it out.
I keep having tons of ideas for cool startups but I lack someone to talk it throgh with and get input from and I hope this will be the right place.
Oh yeah, since I just saw it in the other thread, my biggest goal (my WHY) is never having to worry about money again and never having to do something someone told me, just because I am his employee.
I used to say I want to get to 30k/month in net profit, but my goals right now are much bigger (10-50k per month in income would have been a realistic income with my former slowlane career, so I picked this number) but now I'm aiming much higher. I want to build something big that changes the world and helps a lot of people. And hopefully make some money whil I'm doing this.
