I was walking home from a friend's house yesterday when I decided to stop by for a coffee. We have this great place just around the corner from where I live that makes a mean cup of coffee. But a little spark in my head wondered: If I were the owner of this establishment, how would I make this place even better, how would I be able to make it pull more profit? Look, the place is great, but after analyzing it, it's lacking in a few places:
And these are just some of the most outlying issues I've found. I'm not planning on really acting on these, as I'm not in the idea of making a B&M store, but I do consider this to be just good business sense, to understand why a business did get your patronage, and how it could be even better. Good men learn from their mistakes, better men learn from the mistakes of others. What do you guys think?
- There's no seating ANYWHERE. I know the business model is to buy the coffee and go about your day, but at least a small bar where you can temporarily hang out might make the place seem more alive, and people might be more keen to buy some coffee from there;
- The building it's in is old, and they haven't bothered to remake the facade. Honestly, this would massively increase sales in my opinion. People search for things that stand out, and if your shop is a dash of color in an otherwise monotone space of brick and mortar, you're bound to have more sales;
- There's virtually no advertising for it. The only reason I know they make good coffee is because it was in my walk home, some online advertising, or even just physical advertising would go a long way.
