Being successful isn't hard, it's hard work.
What I mean by this is that despite the long hours that actually building a business entails, the decision itself to be successful is so simple and easy. Yet so many people including myself have so much trouble solidifying the decision to pursue success.
When I'm sitting on my couch binge-watching my favorite TV series on Netflix, I'm making the conscious decision to do so. I made the decision to pick up the remote, turn on the TV, and watch the show.
If I can make the decision to do that with such ease, I can just as easily pick up the remote, turn the TV off, and work on a business. Both of those are simple decisions that take no more than 2 minutes to carry out.
People get up every day, commute to work, and sit in an office from 9-5. They get home, and dread having to do it all over again the next day. That's because it's not easy to do. Having to spend your day inside all day working for a boss you hate is tough. We all know this.
So why is it that people have no problem continuing to do that for the rest of their lives, but when it comes to simply putting down the TV remote and working on a business they can't do it? They could be successful if they put in the work over a long period of time and continued to make that easy 2 minute decision to turn off the TV every day. Yet despite the fact that they head off to work in 9-5 slavery every day, they can't seem to bring themselves to carry out the infinitely easier task of simply putting down the TV remote and slowly chipping away at their freedom.
Let's pretend for a second that success has a time stamp. A wise old man walks up to you one day and hands you a timer that counts down from 10,000 hours. For every hour you put in genuine hard work, the timer counts down. The old man promises that when you reach zero hours, you will be successful. You will have your freedom. You will reach your financial goals, and you will be able to work on the better things in life that you never had time for before.
I'm willing to bet that almost everyone would put down what they're doing and begin working immediately.
While in reality success has no time stamp, I think it would benefit a lot of us to start pretending that it does. It may take 10,000 hours or it may take 15,000 hours. Hell it even may take double that, but the number of hours is irrelevant. What matters is that every day, you're taking as much action as possible and slowly chipping away at that countdown to freedom.
I know this isn't a new concept; MJ has preached taking action all along. However, I think looking at it from a new perspective every once and awhile never hurts, especially when you find yourself in need of a wake up call.
