Hello fellow entrepreneurs. Some of you might remember me, some of you dont. I was inactive for quite some time because i had the feeling i was talking too much and doing too less. Another reason is the fact i had so many ideas i failed to focus on one. That led to a lack of motivation/dedication. Long story short, i wasn't able to finish one project because i focused on too many.
Now, about me: I am a 23 year old entrepreneur with little experience in business. However, due to haggling and 'smooth talking' i was able to make a comfortable living from my age 17-20. Unfortenately for me, i had not yet learned the importance of money management, resulting in a debt of 20k. No matter how rich you are, if your expenses are higher then your income, you have a problem.
In the last year i have not only been busy building a business, but also busy building a skillset that comes in handy in when maintaining a business. For example, i learned several things; building websites, writing decent articles in various languages and time management.
Hell, i even got a job. However, not for the money. (Read MJ's piece on time and leverage). However, a job can be a good experience. For example, i wanted to learn how to write proffesional articles. So i applied for a job as a newswriter, got help from co-workers, and learned how to write. So basically, i was being paid to go to school. How awesome is that?.
In the meantime, i learned everything about the niche i want to exploit. I thought about something i enjoy alot and have experience in. I decided to go with the traveling niche for various reasons. However, traveling itself has way too many competitors.
So, in order to make a difference, i needed to seperate myself from the rest. I managed to do that by pushing my niche in a specific corner. I specialized in backpacking. The topic sparked my interest ( I think it is important that you love what you do. Being rich makes you happy, but doing something you've always wanted AND being rich makes you even happier), offers enough possibilities for a entrepreneur( deals with airlines, expats, outlets, and so on) and has not been milked out yet in my country because it is fairly unknown here.
I managed to get a premium domain name (www.backpacksite.nl) and started (and still am) building.
So, here is the idea: Gaining profit from a webshop selling products from other companies in exchange for a percentage of the profit (affliate marketing). In order to gain customers, i'm going to put daily news and articles on the website. This way i do what i love and make a profit.
Once this starts to roll and i found people that are willing to invest (or made enough myself) i will make deals with expats and shipping companies so i can sell my own gear for 100% of the profit. To make sure people dont feel scammed, i will review every product i sell and be honest about it. I will only recommend things i like myself, because i believe people are more willing to buy something if you have a good reputation with your company.
Another idea there is to hire callcentre employee's and let them call companies to post job openings on my site for a small profit. That way the customer can look up jobs for free, appreciating my site, and i make some money by selling job openings on my website. I can use the high amount of visitors as a reason to make people want to advertise on my site. once i passed this stage, the possibilities are endless.
Thanks for reading till here. I'm always looking for feedback (positive and negative), ideas, investors, opportunities, and so on.
Note: this idea is free to steal. I dont care. people steal ideas anyway. I just want to share what i'm doing at the moment, how i'm doing it, and how i think i will eventually make it.
Greetings,
Henk
