Hello all!
TLDR:
I filed for an LLC through a registered agent service in Wyoming and have an E-commerce business with no physical location, and the website is under a different name than what's on the legal papers. I was planning on using all the details provided when I filed the company (address, EIN, etc.) for that website.
I am all confused because I asked someone from the registered agent service about what it would take to file a DBA, they responded with this:
"We would be happy to help you with a DBA filing, referred to by the Wyoming Secretary of State as a Trade Name.
Before moving forward we wanted to clarify that Wyoming Trade Names are not very popular due to privacy concerns. The application must be signed and notarized by a Manager or Member of the LLC and becomes part of the public record."
Then I started doing a little research because I didn't understand why they weren't very popular and saw something about how registering for a Trade Name is not required in Wyoming. I feel this may not apply to my specific scenario. Also, I do not personally live in Wyoming, nor is my business physically located there, as I mentioned before. I just have the address that the registered agent gave me. If I want my website to be an entity of the business I registered with the state of Wyoming, I need to file for a Trade Name right?
TLDR:
- As someone with a business incorporated in Wyoming under a different name than what my e-commerce website is called, do I need to file for a trade name for the state of Wyoming?
- Does me living in a different state affect this at all?
