I have a SEO question for you tech-savvy guys -
Say you are starting a business selling sports widgets, and you named your widget business "Homerun" (just an example).
So you go to buy your domain name "Homerun" and someone already has "Homerun.com".
You then discover they used it to create some lame website that has no relevance to sports or business and is kind of weird.
So, you do the next best thing which is to buy "HomerunSports.com", because it is specific to your industry.
My question is this: If you use SEO and Marketing to push your business name up the ranks in google, (or any other search engine) aren't you also in effect pushing up that other person's site in rank too??
Basically giving them a free ride to the top? ...because they have the main keyword and the strongest .com?
