I've been looking through the FDA and Alchol & Tobacco Tax & Trade Bureau websites and they're proving difficult to navigate and a bit unclear for my specific questions. I'm hoping somebody here might have some idea about what kind of hoops I would need to jump through to get a business idea off the ground.
Let's say I want to manufacture and distribute Jello Shots. Let's say that until I begin to scale, I want to operate out of my garage/residence in CA.
From what I've found on the FDA website, food manufacturers, packagers, and distributors do not need to register with the FDA (which is free anyway) if they operate out of a private residence. What I haven't been able to find is whether or not there is any kind of license required to serve non-beverage alcholic food products, either through the FDA or ABC (Department of Alchol and Beverage Control).
The closest I've come is from some outside comments that allude to the need for an alchol license if the alcohol content exceeds a certian %.
Does anybody have experience with anything like this?
