Hi MJ,
I wanted to ask you a few quick questions about the business you mentioned in the Fastlane book that you had built and later sold if that is okay? In regards to this, it is the first time (the actual construct) that I am interested in.
1) From the time of concept in your mind, how many hours/days/week did it take you to translate from concept/idea into the actual website to where it was up and Go-Live to your customer base? --> When you were left with the challenge from your friend on capturing the emails arriving daily to translate into money, how much more development effort did you have to put in to solve that solution? How long did it take to solve that?
2) Was the site designed using PHP or Java? +HTML Other? I am wondering if one helped you execute getting the product out the door faster with speed.
3) Did you have to temporarily outsource to any experts/SMEs to do specific piece of graphics/html layout or certain aspects of the system/code to get it done?
4) In terms of development size, do you recall approx how many lines of code was involved in the system? Couple thousand line system (a lot more? or less?)
5) From the point that you had the system up, do you remember how much time/days it took for you to cross a $1000 mark of revenue with the system? How much marketing was involved to get excitement and the word out to begin even getting a bit of money to flow in to your business on this new model?
6) How much of functionality did you initially worry about? Did you try to get 90% of the function you envisioned in your mind, or did you come to realize that you just need to freeze the concept and get something released to the customer? (80/20, 70/30 rule?)-->Taking the attitude, that you will take what you have for now and add improvements as you go later? How much does function play into a customer finding value in what you delivered?
I am just trying to quantify as to what a multi-million $$$ system looks like. Thanks for helping to put all of this into perspective. As you talked about in your book, too many times folks get focused on the event rather than the process. It is the details of the process that provides a moment of truth as to what went really into making things happen.
Thank you...
