I had this done to me, thought I'd share. Hopefully this makes door to door sales effort super easy for you, especially if you are introverted or scared of putting yourself out there.
Instead of getting business cards printed, print out "quote forms".
Have the form explicitly stating the service being offered and your business contact info.
Have a area where you can hand write specific details, like "clean graffiti on rear wall" or "trim bushes along road" or "clean first and second story windows".
Also include a line for you to write in how long you expect it take and the quoted cost.
Put a disclaimer at the bottom that says quote good for 7 days. To start, print these on your own printer so you can quickly test different time frames and see what gets best response.
Now when you walk door to door, you can be writing as you walk into the business or up to the home. If it is a business, you can hand it to someone and ask they give it to the manager.
This will set you apart from other door to door people who want to schedule a meeting and shows you are efficient and respectful of time.
If this is a home or a business is closed, bring some tape and tape the quote to the front door. This way you can even do DTD in the evening or at night.
If they want to be rid of the graffiti or have their bushes trimmed, they will call. Good luck Fam.
