Hi Fastlaners,
I've been working in NY in investment banking since graduating undergrad last May. When hedge fund/private equity recruiting picked up ~ a month ago I realized I'm much more interested in doing my own thing than continuing to work for someone else.
Ideally, I would like to start my own buyout/investment firm although I realize the idea of raising a fund at 22 years old is laughable and I see this as more of an endgame once I'm financially secure. I've basically decided to go the entrepreneurship route once my contract is over next summer (while trying to get traction with stuff on the side in the meantime). During my due diligence over the past few weeks I ran across MJ's book and feel like it's a great framework for thinking about startups.
To be honest, I'm very anxious about walking away from a very lucrative career that I busted my a$$ to break into and I could really use some guidance from anyone who has gone through something similar. Although I wouldn't characterize Wall Street as "fast-lane" (you have to give decades of your life to make the truly legendary money) it's definitely not "slow-lane" as I can reasonably expect to make in the $350k-$400k range by 24. Am I f'ing my life up by walking away from that?
Really appreciate all of your comments.
