Hello all,
I've been lurking these boards for a while and learned a tremendous amount of info. Thanks MJ for the book (which affirmed what I have been thinking all my life) and this forum! The book was amazing and states the truth about gaining success in the market by filling a wanted need. I've told a lot of my friends about this book since the majority of "self-help" books are really a bunch of garbage, i.e. authors selling a "system," that they themselves don't use but look good on paper. I think MJ did a great job with the facts.
I'm currently transitioning out of the Air Force (12 years) and looking to grow my Construction company. The book definitely made me rethink my strategy. My long term goal is to never work for anyone (besides my customers) I can't deal with taking orders from incompetent individuals. My goal as to BUILD and Develop Apartment Complexes and then Property manage them for 2-3 years during lease up then sell to investors. I'm starting small, building duplexes to gain credibility with the banks and due to limited capital. I'm looking into acquiring rentals also. I will build my processes, learn from my mistakes and grow bigger.
I agree with MJ in his book, and I'm trying to merge my idea into one that can be scalable, in construction its all about credibility and history. The construction industry and property development is needed for the greater good of mankind, but I believe it is one of those industries which requires constant oversight of operations and would never be a industry that's a "5 " hour work week. I do enjoy construction and I'm good at the management side of the equation, putting all the pieces together and solving problems. I'm still looking to build "brands" that could operate independently of time, but with construction this will take some constant oversight. Policies and practices will help make operations smoother and I plan on focusing on one niche (i.e Senior Citizen apartment Housing) , to gain effectiveness and efficiency.
I'm looking forward to learn and grow, then contribute the knowledge I have to others.
