I just read a thread that has a ton of responses so I figured I would start a new thread because I would like to take it in a new direction.

The thread was "The secret that was left out of The Millionaire Fast Lane Book". The tone was a little too negative for my taste but the question was fantastic.

How did MJ create all the traffic to his website? I would like to bring this conversation into a more positive light. First off, 12,000 visitors a day is just an incredible achievement. Bravo!!! You rock!!

I am just starting out in the world of internet marketing and think the discussion of how to build traffic to your website is a topic that will be a great benefit to everybody on here.

I took a course called Mass Control and virtually everything I know about online marketing comes from this course. If I may be so bold, I will dissect MJ's incredible accomplishment from my crude understanding of online marketing. If I am wrong please feel free to correct me. I am writing this because I think the discussion will benefit a ton of people on here.

The Magic Bullet

Before you can drive a ton of traffic to any website you need what Frank Kern refers to as a "Magic Bullet". This is an idea that appeals to a lot of people. MJ's magic bullet was a directory for limo services. People who travel the country a lot and frequently use limousines wanted an easy to use directory where they could get a limo whether they were going to be in Miami, NYC, LA, Chicago, etc. It is neither convenient or practical for these people to posses the phone books of every city they visit. There was a need for a website that provided this information. MJ recognized this need and filled it.
Before you can drive tons of traffic or make millions of dollars you must have something that people want or need.

It sounds as though he experimented on the actual revenue generating model a bit. If I remember correctly he experimented with some kind of affiliate links, and also getting revenue from the visitors directly. While the main focus of this conversation is driving traffic, this is an important point. You want to know how to generate the most profits from the traffic you generate.

That is as far as I will take my dissection of his business. Those are the things that stand out to me that people should pay attention to. I am sure there is more but I will let others point that out.

How do we build traffic?

The first step is to have something that people want, as I mentioned earlier. Once you have that then you want to start promoting your stuff. Here is a list of things that I have managed to glean from the internet on how to build traffic.
  • Freebies. Give away free content related to your product. This is focused more on information based "how to" products, but with a bit of creativity you can do this for any product.
  • Videos. Youtube or any other site that can make your video go viral
  • Blogs and articles. The content must be compelling and get people talking and curious about your product.
  • Bookmarking
  • RSS Feeds. Not sure what that is but it came up in my research. If someone can explain it that would be really cool.
  • Affiliate links
  • Banner ads
  • Link Exchanges. Saw a warning on Youtube about these. Apparently Google does not like them. Be careful if you use them.
  • Viral referrals. When a prospect opts in you can offer a cool bonus if they refer 3 people. (It can be any number)
Those are all the ideas that I was able to dig up. I welcome any more suggestions you might have.

I think Disruptive is missing the main point that there was massive perceived value in what MJ was offering. He is focused on SEO and Blogging but not focused on the value it is providing to the prospects. If you write an article about cows am I really motivated to see your website about cows? No. If you write a gazillion articles and blogs and and get your cows.com site to the number 1 spot on Google does anyone really give a shit? Maybe somebody does, but I am no more motivated to opt in to cows.com then if you were 100 on Google. Why? Because there is nothing compelling. I am not saying this to citicize Disruptive. He obviously put a lot of thought into that thread. I just think he is so focused on the methods for building traffic that he forgot the most important element; provide massive value.

Now if I am a travelling consultant in need of a limo in a city I have never been to before and I read about this directory am I going to be interested? Of course I am. Would I refer others to this site. Of course I would. Referalls are an age old sales concept in still the heart and soul of sales, be it online or off. At the center of this is word of mouth. If what you have to offer is valuable people will talk about it. The value you offer has got to be at the center of your traffic building plan. If what you are offering is mediocre than you need to find a way to make it the best, or abandon it for something better.

Value is a perception. To create a lot of traffic you must find what Robert G Allen calls a school of hungry fish. If you can find a magic bullet that a group of people will go bonkers for than the rest of your efforts will fall into place. That does not mean you don't put in the work, it means that this work will pay dividends far beyond anything that is mundane because people are rabid for your offer. Let's take a look at some other "magic bullets".

Is there are large group of people that would be interested in learning how to pick up and sleep with super hot women... ...I am talking about models, playboy bunnies, etc. Oh yeah baby!!! Enter the seduction market. It is populated by such people as:
  • Mystery from VH1's "The Pickup Artist". He is creator of the Venusian Arts and the Mystery Method. He has several books available and a package deal for his flagship product "Revelation" that tips the scale at $500. Mystery, along with others in the pickup community, such as Neil Strauss, hold seminars that cost thousands of dollars to attend.
  • Pandora's Box - this method cost $77 a month and is a 12 month program that promises to teach you how to psychologically profile woman into 8 different types. Once you understand the type you than have strategies to attract that type of woman.
  • 2 Girls Teach Sex (2GTS) These girls are my heroes. They are porn stars that reinvented themselves and sell products to the seduction community. Their products range from pickup to sexual techniques and stamina. It is hard to talk about with a straight face. The thing that I like so much about these girls is that they can't even spell. Their products are an editors nightmare, but nobody cares because they are hot. LOL They are living proof that you do not need to be a rocket scientist to do this. I have watched them do several launches over the past year that have pulled in millions of dollars.
  • The seduction product that really takes the cake is the "Annihilation Method" by Neil Strauss. The marketing was designed by Frank Kern. This product was a whopping $3,500 per unit. They created 375 units for sale to the public and it sold out in 4 hours. That is $1.4 million.
You may find the whole idea of the seduction market funny, but you can either laugh or make a shit ton of money from it. The bottom line is that there is no shortage of men that will pay almost anything to learn how to be better at attracting women. That is the essence of the magic bullet.

So we know the seduction market is a market that pulls big money, are there others? How about gambling?
  • John Morrison's sportsbettingchamp.com has been charging $197 for his product that wins "97% of the time". Despite clear evidence that this product is a fraud this guy has been in business for many years. Justin7 of the SBR forum did a Youtube video exposing a scandal between John Morrison and affiliated sportsbook BETUS. If you are into sports betting this is a must see.
  • Scott Ferrall is a tout that charges hundreds of dollars for his picks. He is hardly the only one. There are a ton of these guys.
  • goldsheet.com charges money for statistical research. There are several sites in this business as well.
Okay, we have gambling, and the seduction market, how about investing?
  • Rich Dad by Robert Kiyosaki has products ranging from $20 books all the way to courses costing 10s of thousands of dollars.
  • Wade Cook and Michael Parness are two stock market gurus that hold seminars for several thousands per seat.
  • Robert G Allen, Dean Graziosi, Donald Trump, and the list goes on and on. This market is huge!!
For more of a niche market look at Tony Robbin's latest venture. He is promoting something called Strategic Intervention. The course is $333 a month and lasts a year. He is pulling in millions with this product.

This is what MJ is talking about when he tells you to find a need and fill it. Find an itch and scratch it. Each of these magic bullet ideas I listed above I learned about on my quest to find my own magic bullet that I could create a business around. Finding an idea can be really mystifying at first. I think one key thing to remember is not to fear competition. If you have an idea that has absolutely no competition there is a good chance that your idea sucks. Robert Kiyosaki is not the first person to make millions teaching people how to invest, and I am certain he will not be the last. I am certain there will be people teaching guys how to pick up women long after Mystery is no longer in the game. Your idea does not have to be original, you just need an angle.

I hope this gets a good conversation going on how to build traffic. I am just a newb. I will be launching my first site around mid August. I am hungry for any information I can learn on how to build traffic to my site. My budget is very limited so I am focused on as many free methods as I can find. Luckily the best method on the planet has always been and still is word of mouth. If you have something people want they will talk about it. That is why I spend a lot of time reading sales and referall books.
