After reading the fastlane Millionaire, I wrote a cookbook, published it, quit my job and gave it my best make it a successful business. It failed. It violated the E of the CENTS commandments, Entry. It's too easy to write a cookbook today, there are thousands of them out there, the competition is wild. This doesn't mean it's impossible to make money with a cookbook, but it does call for excellent execution, which is where I fell short.
I ran out of money, I had to move back home to my mom where I still live today. My brother gave me some work to do for him, painting. While painting, I thought of how slow we were and how fast we could do it, if we had a robot assist us. I then bought "Robot Building for Beginners". After 4 months, I finished the robot from the book, which is a lunchbox with 2 wheels that can follow a line on the floor. Sandwich, it's called. Even tho this is a useless robot, I have learned about electricity, motors, wheels, LEDs, transistors, resistors, circuitry, batteries, soldering, light metalwork and a bunch of other stuff.
Now, I am starting an Arduino Starter kit pack so I can learn how to program a micro controller, so I can build more elaborate robots. I have a vision, an idea an a plan to make a robot that can spatter, effectively helping painters increase their productivity. These machines do exist, however, they are very big and very expensive - not for the ordinary painter to buy and use.
I am building one for them. On they can afford, one that is not too big and will help them do their work for effectively.
I talked to my brother yesterday, I showed him my drawing and explained to him how it would work. He said cool. Then I asked him if he could use such a machine, given that it would work perfectly. He said no. Then explained to me that when I was working with him, we were painting a brand new house, which is a rare job for him to do. He mostly does renovation work, where he doesn't spatter a lot.
This sucked to hear. Is there no demand for the product I am creating? Will the N of the CENTS commandments be violated by pursuing the creation of this product?
Or is this a smokescreen. The opinion of 1 person who do not believe in my product. I've talked to ordinary people about my idea who praised it and others who took a shit on it. I didn't care much about their opinions because they are not entrepreneurs, they have a hard time wrapping their heads around other career paths than having a job, but the opinion of my brother is different, but because we're related, but mostly because he is a painter and the idea rooted from my work with him. I take constructive feedback from anyone.
After the conversation, my mind started to wonder. Should I "pivot" and start pursuing other ideas and projects? ChatGPT talked about making robot pets, I'm fantazing about making electrical ornaments for the home, smart appliances, but idk.
I think it's way way too early to call the painting robot a failure, as the product does not even exist yet, it has never been pitched and presented or tried sold to fair amount of buyers. My brother does not represent all painters around. He's just 1.
I know the worst thing I can do is to freeze and not do anything. I won't do that. I will continue working on my plan, but I am open to tweaking and editing the plan a bit, if needed.
