As some of you know from the random chat, I have recently gotten into what the internet calls “rucking.” The conversation has gone a lot farther than a few posts so I decided to make a full thread.
I’m not into dweeby “go ruck challenges” I’m not into “official rucking protocol.” I just one day wanted to add a force multiplier to my walk days and tossed a 60 pound sand bag covered in duct tape into a nice backpack and walked 3 miles.
I was hooked. This has since broken my 2 year running speed plateau in two weeks with literally less running. I am only running on average once a week now because “rucking” is better.
At about 6 weeks now, I’m carrying 70 and 80 pounds most days by way of adding 10 pound weight plates. Sometimes going as far as 6 miles.
The way I see it, it doesn’t get more practical than being able to carry heavy weight long distances. All the stupid gym machines with cables and pulleys can’t even come close to substituting the raw effort of traversing the earth with an unruly load strapped to your back.
Today I got the heart rate well into threshold zone just going 1.5 miles and carrying 80 pounds. More than likely, it spiked like that because it’s 96 degrees outside making this another level more difficult. I also managed to lose about 6 pounds of sweat in 37 minutes.
I’m lighter on my feet. Stronger than ever. A force multiplier it truly is. I highly recommend.
