About a decade ago I found a new startup operating out of my city in the coffee industry and I thought their idea was really innovative so I subscribed and also offered a couple free pieces of tech advice about their website. I came back around to their website today to see if they were still in business and what they were up to, and I discovered that they've leveraged their resale system as a product and it's available for other businesses to use. Basically their original business model was to ship fresh roasted coffee advertising that you'll never run out. Their system was to create a 3d printed wi-fi enabled scale that reports weight measurements once every day or two to their website, and based on an algorithm they created, the website would automatically trigger a new order based on your subscription preferences and often I'd get a new bag of coffee before my previous one (that was sitting on the scale) ran out.
This opportunity looks like if you have a product you sell direct to your customers, you can use this scale based business model by partnering with bottomless to deliver resales. I'm starting to think of how I might apply this to my cosmetics business as I scale it up. It's an intriguing option for sales outside of in person marketing or using amazon.
