I am a promoter but have never worked with hard copy tickets just online sales to my events, I also frequently go to concerts. The other day I was at a concert at congress theater in Chicago. Tickets for the event after fees on the internet were $43. Outside about a block down was a nice looking college student with a handful of hard copy tickets he sold me one for below value at $30. I asked if he worked for the venue he said NO I just buy and sell I do this every weekend it pays really good, when the show sells out I make thousands. I was in a rush otherwise I would have asked him more questions.
I am trying to figure out.....
- How can you get bulk tickets for a show/concert prior to the event at a discounted price. This way if the concert does not sell out you can sell at face and at least get rid of the inventory.
- Make friends with the concert promoter, facebook them? Get 25 hard copies for cheap a month or so before? This is what I am thinking is the answer.
I have done where I buy a few tickets off the venue website and when it sells out sell them for double or even triple. But this was a small flip. That is NOT really fastlane. To me fastlane would be turning this into a consistent business that could bring in some real money on a monthly basis.
Would love to hear feedback from people who have done/do this.
P.S With selling tickets you have to sell them down the street otherwise security may confiscate the tickets so be careful. Just a known fact. Some cities/venues are more strict than others on reselling tickets. I know the risks involved and how to minimize those risks to the fullest extent.
