First it was trying to build a SaaS on my own. Then with a partner. Then learning sales and then sales management and leadership.
I've got some experiences under my belt at this point and I'm considering what has burned me out and what has me energized.
The last 3 weeks has been one of reflection for me in a huge way. And now I'm looking for business models to consider.
I've thought about SaaS, but I can't stomach the thought of writing code for years unless I find an opportunity and convince someone to work with me on it full-time and I'm damn sure we can scale quickly enough that competitors hardly have a chance to catch up. The scalability of SaaS and the multiples on exit, are insane. I feel torn to not just dive into it again given my talent and skill level at this stage.
I've thought about running an ad agency, but I know what it's like to deal with clients (sorta) and I see the challenge in scaling that type of business to $50M/yr in revenue.
I like the idea of eCommerce - it deals with physical products in many cases and with my software background I could probably do a little programming to get an edge in certain cases which is acceptable to me since the software features aren't the whole basis of the Value proposition.
Saw a brick and mortar opportunity that got my heart thumping with excitement, and so that's something else I'm looking into.
I've considered a number of other business models but none of which seem scalable enough.
