SEO Competition/Keyword Research Question

Hi Everyone! Quick question: I know sites like Wikipedia pages are hard to outrank with a niche site and sites like Yahoo Answers and forum pages are easier, but what about pages from websites like Amazon, Target, Wal-Mart, etc. for product keywords. I have a few keywords that most sites in the top 10 have very few backlinks and low page rank, but they are all pages on a major store's website. Would you say it would be easy or hard to outrank them with a niche site? Thanks for all your help!
