Should mybrand.com and mybrand.mycountry point at the same server?

Hi there,

That's my first post here, and I hope I'm posting in the right forum section for this question.
Brief introduction: I read the book, I loved it, and even referred it to friends.
It has lead to me finding a "partner" in business for executing a specific idea.

This idea is a kind of news website, a really specific kind (just to give you a generic idea of the kind of traffic and stress the website is gonna receive)


So here I am, with www.mybrand.com (example name) set up (more or less) and soon running.

I want also to set up and run www.mybrand.mycountry , but I have a big question:

Should i set www.mybrand.mycountry to redirect to something like mycountry.mybrand.com (or mybrand.com/mycountry) or there is any tecnical reason, traffic or seo related, for keeping them as 2 different websites?

Is google gonna like them more as a subpage of the same website, or as 2 different websites?

The topic is gonna be the same, just 2 different languages. Very likely the news are gonna be a translation of the same ideas in different languages too. For the first months at least.

I was thinking of using the same platform for both, pretty much just changing the text, for making manteinance and publishing easier, but I am totally not sure if this is the right approach.
The hosting cost would also be lower if everything would be on the same website.


I'm open to any critique and suggestion.


edit: another info that might be useful, our primary focus in the long term is gonna be on the local "market", unless users should tell us otherwise. But in the short run, the local traffic is low for this specific sector. We firmly believe it's gonna steadily increase in the next months, but we estimate that most of the traffic for the first 2 or 3 months is gonna come from the international site, not the local one.
