Hi Guys,
after a four hour sleep and burning the midnight oil developing the website. I eventually secured a marketing job to fund my business.:icon_super:.
In the meantime I was speacking with a local packaging firm, what file types they prefer for the graphic design and for the layout.
How does it look?
It is a small business, perfect for learning purposes, but has the ability to be ramped up, speaking about scale.
I choose a physical product, because 1) I can't program, 2) I know it sells and 3) my competitors have some flaws in their product I can adapt to and provide people better value for their money.
My goals for the business
Shortterm goal:
I want to make my first sale before 1. December. Mainly due to the upcoming christmas season.
Midterm goal:
With the business, primarily goal is to make a profit, and that would be the first sell for me. Secondary, it works as a training horse for me to learn during the process. I am constantly surrounded by webdesign and sales books, using every free minute of the day to educate myself more about the queen, marketing and sales.
Longterm goal:
This business is ought to provide me a steady income to give me the freedom of time and to found bigger business opportunities. I constantly see opportunities to invest in, presumed I have the funds to do so.
The time needed to keep the cash flow alive should be minimal, so automatication will eventually be apllied in the future to streamline it. I want to be as fungible as possible, but still own the business.
Lessons learned so far
Somebody read the 100$ startup by Chris Guillebeau? First of all, I think that it is a great book for people starting up their businesses, but as with the four hour work week, the title is missleading. You won't think in your dreams that 100$ is all it takes?
Sure a software product, probably needs less physical inventory (<0), but can you program? Can you webdesign?
The cheapest offer I got from somebody to make the website I wanted was 500€, and I havn't even spoken with him about the nitty gritty things.
Besides that, it feels great to work towards your personal long term goals and learn along the way. The lessons I am learning, going out, speaking to people are priceless and will serve me well for future ventures. It is liberating eventually to get your hands dirty and see the progress you are making. That overall was my primary goal for this year.
The job at that marketing company pays above average. I think that is awesome. In the area I live in, people don't earn much, so I was looking for jobs in big cities and had been lucky that I can actually start next monday.
And because I know what my longterm goal is, this passion fuels my process. Besides the marketing job, I apllied for the garbage service in a city near my town, because I know that the people there get payed above average as well.
I will now take a nap to go to the gym later ithat day. Purpose of that is to get more out of the day.
