I'm a 24 year-old who just moved back into his parents' house and is fed up with the Sidewalk/Slowlane. Brief timeline of my life:
My plans for the future:
- Unhappy childhood. Strong desire to improve my situation.
- Senior year of high school. I discover online poker. I skip 3/4 of the school year, log in 12 hour days building a bankroll, and barely graduate.
- Age 19. My bankroll is now a healthy size, and I buy a one-way ticket to Thailand. Party Time.
- 6 months pass. I proceed to move to Seoul, South Korea to live with a friend. Too much drinking and playing. Within 6 months, I buy a plane ticket back to the states with the remains of my poker bankroll.
- Back in the U.S. I move into a friends' house, rebuild a bankroll and proceed to splurge on clothes, drugs, and a Nissan 240SX (got hustled hard).
- My bankroll gets seized. Black Friday.
- Age 21. No money. No back-up plan. I move back into my parents' house, work at their gas station part-time, and enroll in the local community college (paid for by student loans).
- Small town. Boredom. Tediousness. After a year I drop out, relocate to my friends' couch, and look for a new job.
- Assistant Cook & Cashier at Korean Deli. They go out of business. Cashier at Korean-owned handy mart. Job Perks: Free cigarettes.
- I get a phone call and job offer from my uncle whom I haven't spoken to in years. Job Position: cashier at his grocery store in Downtown Seattle. Pay rate: $12/hour. I accept.
- Night-Shift. Downtown Seattle. 70% of my customers are homeless, drug dealers, or crackheads. I fight with my friend whose house I'm staying at. I can afford the monthly rate at a run down motel. More crackheads and drug dealers.
- Eventually I move into my own studio in Seattle. My uncle sells the store, and the new owner cuts my pay by 15%.
- Rent = 1 of my 2 paychecks/month. I live off canned tuna, ground beef, and instant food for 4-5 months. Why not tell my parents? "I'd rather tighten my belt before I beg for help" - Jay-Z.
- October 2013. I transition into a job working for a sign company called White Signs (owned by my friends' father). I become proficient in a variety of signage skills.
My plans for the future:
- Help out my parents by working night shift at their new store
- Work on my own ventures during the day
- Finish up the Gary Halbert Challenge to become competent in the skill of copywriting
- Grow a fastlane business no matter what it takes, and never settle for anything less
