I loved the Millionaire Fastlane ! It was like the book of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes in the form of modern financial advise.
I'm was a teenager, caught up with trying to better myself in every way possible. Started with my physical self by doing 10 push-ups & 10 sit-ups every morning. Then my emotional self by talking to other. Then mental self by pushing my limits through studying. I learnt many subjects such as coding and other forms of multi-media. But I never had a big picture/plan for what I wanted to do. Luckily this quarantine hit as soon as I started an internet fasting/meditation habit. I began to read a lot more books, starting with the Bible and finally found a solid framework for myself. Then one day as I was cleaning my room, I pick up your book. My dad gave to me a couple years ago and I decided it was finally the time to think about my financial future as well.
Was totally expecting a regurgitation of typical Dave Ramsey's advice because that's what I was so used to in school. But DeMarco totally ripped on him dude! Like damn, I was honestly about to sell my soul to work for the rest of my life! In the past year, I was a seasonal hire at Target working in the fulfillment department. I found so many people in their dead inside. The people I've met were characters there were Illegals, hippies, stoners, college students, and one person even had a LAW DEGREE. Some were Side-walkers, some were Slowlaners. To be honest, I had no passion or plan myself while working. I was just going to use my earned money to invest and test my luck in the stock market or mutual funds like any other person that follows the Slowlane gurus. Luckily, I dug this gem out of the trunk.
It made me realize that the things I've been learning in school could be used to create something new! Something that can actually help people! It made me proud that I was going to community college because now I'm no longer going to school for the degree, but the knowledge to create and take self-control!
My time will now go to my planning stage and the money I've saved up from Target will now focus on executing that plan rather than the whole thing into one big gamble. The gate is now open to a well-off future. None of Gen Z have this knowledge or accept this knowledge, they'd rather rebel on the streets or conform to a boss. To me, it's my philosophy that:
The Devil is Rebellion and Conformity, but God is Freedom and Law
Unbound freedom is just pure destruction; Rules that have no freedom is just pure tyranny.
Therefore, although I hate being restricted, at the same time I fear unrestricted freedom.
You Gen Xers have some great advice. Thank you Financial Solomon! I'll make ya proud!
