Ok, so I started execution of my own project. I got idea, designed my products, found financing for my project, found good supplier and started production, took care of all necesarry paperwork etc.
But now there is coming the most important part of the battle - distribution.
Realizing that selling just via eshop isnt in most cases really fastlane, especially now when there are so many eshops around, I was thinking about other methods of getting my goods to customer. Beside other methods, the most obvious is to distriblute in retail shops and networks.
But how do I get started? I have found few small shops in the city, whose owners I can probably ask for some cooperation. How should I address big chains like walmart, Tesco etc. or big specialized shops (shops with toys in my case)? Is there any chance they will be willing to sell my product? And if so, what is generally profit margin of such shops?
I know it must differ a lot, but if I manufacture product for instance for 5usd, that sells normally for 20usd and I want to sell it via retail shop now, how much can I expect to get from those 20 bucks? And under what conditions? Do I get money before the product is sold (I sell my product to retail shop and dont care about what happens to this product afterward) or do I get paid by retail shop after the product is sold by them?
I went to ask one guy in his small shop if he was interested in selling my product. He said yes, but I will get paid after each sold piece. And if i want for example 10 usd for piece, he will sell it for 20 usd.
What are your experiences and what do you suggest me to do here? What are usual profit margins and how should I address those shops?
I am still sole trader, expecting to go for ltd. after some profits (In my country, its quite a bureaucracy to found ltd and it costs some money as well)
