Hey everyone, just wanted to hear your honest opinions about setting up a company vs sole proprietorship when just starting out.
I’m getting to the stage as a freelancer where sales are coming in, and it’s time to register, before I go reach out and start aggressively working on growing my business, on social media, ads, etc.
Now since I’m pretty much working from home, libraries and cafes, it would be far more simple to register as a sole proprietor, in fact all I have to do is fill out an online form and pay the fee.
However, with a limited company, I’ll need to do things such as a create business bank account, register an office address, pay more fees, and have proper accounting done.Though at some stage in the near future, I’ll surely have to do this.
I’m in a little bit of a dilemma, I know many of the advantages there are towards having a limited company as MJ has mentioned in the book, but at this point of time it’s going to take far more work, and money.
Have any of you started off as a sole-proprietor when freelancing, and then converted to a limited company. Or did you go limited company all the way ?
Would be grateful to hear your thoughts on this. Cheers.
P.S : I'm based in Hong Kong by the way, and I believe things work quite similarly to the US.
