Most good ideas form from seeing a problem or void, and filling that void with a solution or service. My business partner found a problem, with no solution. The solution can be fixed through an online marketplace. The marketplace could be started with products originally offered by us, but down the road would be open to other contributors selling theirs on this marketplace. There are no current competitors, although there are companies that could make this facet an additional service they offer, and since they have the platform and users, could probably do it 3x faster then us, solely on their background and resources. The idea is golden, however, an idea is only as good as the execution behind it; and thats why I'm here.
Yall are very knowledgeable, and I'm sure there have been a few people here that have done SOME kind of online marketplace, whether like ebay, craigslist, or whatever. Where does one even start? Do you find the investor first, or find the developer, or see if theres an interest first? I feel like we could test the market to see if theres a real need (I know there is, but could back that with statistics of people interested). The problem with testing the market like that is we're essentially releasing our idea prior to launch so other companies could begin developing, with more momentum.
I'd love to start a progress thread based on this fastlane concept, but it seems so overwhelming. I've started my own companies before, but nothing on this area or extent.
Also, What do you think of a model starting out free and making revenue off of ads and then go to a paid membership. Is it harder to go to a paid model later? With this concept you can't exactly start free, and then go to a "premium" above model. I'm thinking of leaning towards a pay as you go version. Another route we thought about taking was offering a free intro to the first 100 users or so. Does stuff like this usually work as far as building loyalty to a new product or service?
Any help would be appreciated!! Excited to start this journey, but would love to learn from yalls achievements or mistakes on a similar journey.
