Just finished reading Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon, and here’s the key insight: no idea is entirely original. The best creators borrow, adapt, and build on what’s already out there.
I’ll be honest - I've often felt this pressure to come up with fresh, groundbreaking ideas every waking moment. If someone’s already done it, I’ve thought, "Well, that’s it, I can’t touch it." But reading this made me realise: I don’t need to put that kind of weight on myself. Creativity isn’t about reinventing the wheel; it’s about taking what’s out there, making it your own, and letting the pressure go.
Relating back to this forum, I have found one of the key concerns of wantrepreneurs (myself included) is that we don't know what problems to tackle. Well, the key takeaway could suggest to just look what is already out there and steal it. See a business running that you think is cool? Steal their idea and start a copycat. Everything is derivative, so why worry about putting these expectations upon yourself?
Has anyone else read it? What stood out to you?
