I'm 42 Yeas old. I have been a slow lane person for over 20 years now. More then once I have looked for ways to get out of this time eating corporate world. But just never could get past square one. I read this book and man I wish I had this information years ago. It is eye opening.
So here is my current situation. Has I said I have been working in the corporate world for over 20 years now working in the IT field. I am married to a wonderful woman with four awesome step kids. Everything was good to start with but then my wife started to have medical problems including bad back pain. With the cost of medicine, medical care, tests, unexpected house and car repairs, legal costs, and just me under estimating how much it takes to support a family of six after being a bachelor for a very long time, we started to take on a huge amount of credit card debit. Then my wife lost her job. She has started her own business but it is slow moving so far. It's taking every thing I can muster to just pay on our debit and monthly bills. Even after cutting back on everything there is no money to pay more then the minimum on the credit cards unless I want to default on something and take a credit hit (which I am doing everything to keep my credit rating good and high). I am looking at options now like selling my car and living with just one, etc.. I know this is my fault for not getting control of it earlier. But I have to move forward now learning from my mistakes. There have been a lot of hard lessons.
The slow lane just does not work. You can work all your life and save money back and do the right thing according to all the so called experts but then boom! Life hits you between the eyes and wipes out everything. I do still have my 401k but that won't help me for another 30+ years. Also I need spend more time with my step kids and my wife. The only real answer is to change lanes to the fast lane and focus on helping others so that I can build a new future for my family.
I look forward to learning from all of you here and to contribute as much as I can. Now begins a new journey.
