In the development stages of bringing a new product to market. While I am getting the typical "yea that sounds like a good idea / I would buy it" lip service, I don't know how many people would actually put their money where their mouth is.
I was thinking of investing into marketing, creating a landing page / sales channel, and when people try to check out with an actual purchase, say the product is sold out?
At least then I can look at those metrics and see if the product is attracting valid buyers.
I would look to perform this "test" for a month, and if the numbers look promising, I would be able to actually fulfill orders in 45 days. So there wouldn't be any excessive lapse between test and actual delivery capability.
Or would a tactic like this ruin the product / brand?
Or is anyone aware of another mechanism of testing whether people would actually purchase?
